  • Tirupati is a Vibrant Pilgrim town located in Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh, dramatically sited at the foot of bluff red sand stone that marks the Tirumala Hills.
  • It has closed link to two metros i.e., Chennai and Bangalore at a distance of 150 KMs & 258 KMs.
  • Tirupati town itself is focused on the Govindaraja swamy temple (16-17th Century) with the streets of town laid on the East- West axis, with the temple at the centre and surrounded by Sri Padmavathi Temple, Tiruchanoor, Sri Kodanda Ramaswamy Temple and RamaChandra Koneru, Kapilatheeratham, Agastheeswara Temple at Thondavada (Mukkoti), Srinivasa Mangapuram.
  • Tirupati, foothill town of Tirumala hills and the abode of Lord Venkateswara, a pilgrim place is visited by over 180 lakh devotees annually.
  • Municipal Corporation spread over an area of 24.00 sq.km with 20 Revenue Wards and 50 Election wards with 42 Poor slums.

2004 Critical Infrastructure Investment Plan for town wide development submitted to Government of Andhra Pradesh with Assistance of World Bank for approval. The actual Eco-city works under Core Area Development started in the month of December 2004
2005-06 Infrastructure development for all 42 poor settlements has completed with DFID funding with an estimated cost of Rs. 1480 lakhs.
2006-07 Construction of 1980 No.s Urban Permanent Housing at Daminedu completed
2006-07 Draft City Development plan has been submitted to Ministry of urban Development Govt. of India to induct in JNNURM City
2007-08 Upgraded as Corporation
2007-08 Hon’ble Minister for HUPA Kumari Selja has laid the foundation stone for the construction of 4087 Houses under IHSDP and foundation work is in progess

Economic Base of the City
  • The economy is basically tourism because of Lord Venkateswara Temple at Tirumala and Surrounded by other Temples.
  • Due to the Establishment of various Educational Universities and Institutions
  • The surrounding villages of Tirupati are agro-based with dry land and irrigated through wells and tanks.
  • The town is important trading centre are about 3000 shops. Most of public in the town is 20-25% are depending on the business.
  • Few peoples are engaged in Industries, schools and colleges, balance 10 to 15% are daily labour.
